Welcome to Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa. I hope you enjoy in this program. I would like to introduce my self my name is Desi Rohayati I’m Local guide here. 

Now, I want to tell you about this mosque.This mosque is the oldest mosque in Cirebon which was built around the year 1480 during the Wali Songo era or spreader of Islam in Java. The mosque name is taken from the word "Sang" which means keagungan or majesty, "Cipta/copyright" means Dibangun or built, and "Rasa / taste" means Digunakan used. The function of this mosque is to prayer Moslem people.

Ladies and gentleman. Now, I would like to tell you about history of this mosque.  According to tradition, the mosque was reportedly involved about five hundred people who had come from Majapahit, Demak, and Cirebon. In its construction, this mosque was referred by Sunan Sunan Gunung Jati and Kalijaga as architect. In addition, Sunan Gunung Jati also brought Raden Snakeskin, Majapahit architects, who became prisoners of war Demak-Majapahit, to help designing the building.

The former mosque has memolo or waterless roof. However, when the Azan Pitu (seven Adzan) of Morning Prayer held to ward off Menjangan Wulung Aji, the dome was moved to the Grand Mosque of Banten which still has two domes until now. Because of the story,every Friday prayers at the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa held Azan Pitu, named so because the Adzan is done simultaneously by seven muezzin all of them are using white uniforms.

In the front gate of the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa, the wall was made of red brick style Majapahitan. The roof of the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa has pyramid-shaped crown and has no mosque dome. There are 9 doors that symbolizes the guardian dross, with 1 piece on the eastern side of the main door, 4 door medium sized and 4 smaller sized door.

Here are some important points of Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa:

1.  Pole on the right side which is supported by steel plate is one of the pillars of the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa made by Sunan KaliJaga.

2.  In contrast to the tradition of mosques in general, the first call to pray on Friday prayers at the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa uses 'Azan Pitu', where 7 people muezzin do Adzan to call people for praying together.

3.  Beautifully carved wooden reading Arabic letters that are in the front of the Grand Mosque Notices taste. Although it looks old and worn, but the wood carvings in Grand Mosque of the Copyright taste is still radiates beauty ukirnya fine art.

4.  Barrel-barrel reservoir of water in the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa used by sultans to wash his face, hands and feet when ablution, to clean themselves before praying.

5.  The main door of the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa normally only open during the Eid prayer and the celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. Thus, to get into the main hall of the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa, visitor must pass through a small hole located on the lower right side of the mosque by way of ducking. Philosophically, it is intended to allow visitors humbled himself when he was in the mosque. In practical terms, this hole is used as the control to attract charity of the visitors.

6.  The composition of the main roof of Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa is built in the form of pyramid stacking, it looks complicated but neat and very beautiful. s.

7.  In the main hall of the Masjid Agung Sang Cipta Rasa is also presented prayer hall of Kanoman and Kasepuhan sultans which is surrounded by a wooden fence.
